Hearing aids cannot cure hearing loss but can drastically improve your hearing and ability to communicate with others. Surgical procedures If you have middle ear diseases, such as, abnormalities in your eardrum or the bones in your middle ear, frequent ear infections that cause fluid built up behind your eardrum you may be treated using surgery. Cochlear implants Cochlear implants are designed for people with severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss who cannot be treated with Hearing aids. A cochlear implant bypasses the damaged parts of the inner ear and sends electric signals to the brain, where they are interpreted as sound. Your hearing healthcare provider will let you know if you are a candidate for a cochlear implant.
